ABOUT DR. REBECCA RODRIGUEZ RIVERA

Dr. Rebecca L. Rodríguez Rivera, PsyD, serves as a postdoctoral fellow and psychotherapist at New Insights Behavioral Health Services. A native of Puerto Rico and a Spanish speaker, she earned her BA in Psychology from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, and her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Adler University. Dr. Rodríguez's experience spans various treatment settings, including intensive outpatient programs, residential treatment, community mental health outpatient services, and psychiatric hospitals. She specializes in complex posttraumatic stress, severe depressive and anxiety disorders, and co-occurring substance/alcohol use disorders. Her clinical expertise encompasses adverse childhood experiences, domestic violence, intimate partner violence, Adult Children of Alcoholics trauma syndrome, sustained generational trauma, and early onset neglect and abuse, both sexual and physical, affecting individuals from ages 7 to 85.

Dr. Rodríguez is highly skilled in cultural competency, with extensive experience in treating underserved populations, including racial, ethnic, and religious minorities, survivors of police brutality, and victims of racial-based abuse and discrimination. She is trained in bilingual multigenerational family therapy, focusing on immigrants from Central and South America and the Caribbean. Dr. Rodríguez is dedicated to assisting individuals, couples, and families facing immigration issues, acculturational stress, language barriers, and cultural identity development across generations. Her broad experience also includes working with trans and queer individuals, those outside societal gender norms, individuals involved in the criminal justice system, and those exhibiting symptoms of Cluster C personality disorders.

In her therapeutic approach, Dr. Rodríguez prioritizes offering clients a corrective emotional experience. This involves fostering trust and consistency within the therapist-client relationship and carefully avoiding the repetition of past disrupted attachments and traumatic relationships. Her interventions encourage self-reflection and deeper understanding of emotional needs within relationships, as well as assistance in setting and upholding boundaries in challenging relationships. In her work with children, Dr. Rodríguez employs the ARC treatment framework, along with non-directive play therapy and the application of Adlerian theory in Sand Tray Therapy.
